Artisan Dental Keeps Oral Care Products Out of Landfills and Earns Money for Charity

Artisan Dental has begun the first and only oral care products recycling program in the Dane County area, helping to keep toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes, floss containers and mouthwash containers out of landfills. The Artisan Dental Recycling Program participates in the Tom’s of Maine Natural Care Brigade®, a free recycling program sponsored by Tom’s of Maine ® and TerraCycle®.

The Artisan Dental Recycling program is also able to earn money for charity.  For each piece of waste sent to TerraCycle, Artisan Dental earns two points which are converted into a cash donation to its charity of choice, Feeding America. http://www.feedingamerica.org/our-response/about-us/?_ga=1.29773375.146046186.1414533122 Materials collected as part of the Artisan Dental Recycling program will be recycled into a variety of products, such as cutting boards, and trash cans.

Artisan  Dental is also cooperating with the City of Madison Streets and Recycling Department to create additional awareness around the program.  “Oral care products like toothpaste tubes and  toothbrushes are impossible to recycle in municipal curbside programs,” Madison recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said.  “It is great when someone in the community steps up to help with hard to recycle materials.  We are pleased to partner with Artisan Dental to recycle these products.”  http://www.cityofmadison.com/streets/recycling/DentalProducts.cfm.

The Artisan Dental Recycling Program offers customers an easy way to recycle the products they use most. All toothpaste tubes and caps, toothbrushes, floss containers, mouthwash bottles and caps, deodorant containers and soap packaging regardless of brand, are accepted.

We hope you are enjoying a wonderful fall! As we approach the end of the year, we would like to share a tip that can help you take full advantage of any dental insurance, Flex or HSA benefits you may have remaining.

While some dental insurance plans run on a fiscal year, most run on a calendar year. The way your dental insurance benefits work is that you are provided a certain dollar amount of benefits each year. If you do not use those benefits you lose them! (Unused benefits do not carry over to the next year). Many people do not realize this and let hundreds (or even thousands) of dollars worth of benefits go back into the insurance company’s bank account. While treatment is never dictated by insurance, if you have any treatment that remains to be completed, or you have any dental concerns at all, it would be very useful for you to come in before the end of the year.

use it or lose it

Many people also participate in Flexible Spending Accounts or Health Savings Plans with their employer. In many cases, any benefits left in these accounts do not roll over each calendar year.

Our goal with every one of our patients is to help you enjoy great oral health. That means that you look good, you feel good, you have strong teeth and gums, and you enjoy the benefits of a healthy, attractive smile for a lifetime. If you would like to make an appointment, just email us or give us a call and we will find a time that is convenient for you. Just remember that when the clock strikes 12 midnight on December 31st, you will lose any unused dental benefits. We are happy to help you get the full benefits that you are entitled to under your dental benefits policy.

Here’s to helping you achieve excellent dental health!
