This year Artisan Dental has been able to give back to the community with our collaboration with More Smiles WI.
Similar to Artisan, More Smiles’ mission is to provide access to quality dental care and various health-related services. More Smiles WI was founded in 2009 by two area dentists, under its previous name, Madison Dental Initiative. The clinic began as a volunteer organization whose mission was to provide dental care to those in need.
Along similar standards as Artisan, More Smiles WI advocates that dental care is essential for overall health and well-being. More Smiles WI is helping bridge the gap for which many low-income adults face significant barriers for accessing dental services. This issue is particularly pronounced among minority groups and individuals with disabilities.
Most recent studies show that poor dental health can lead to a number of health problems and systemic diseases such as diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory infections. Untreated cavities and gum diseases can result in infections, tooth loss, and chronic pain, while more severe conditions can go undetected without regular dental visits.
The lack of dental care also affects individuals’ social and economic well-being. Dental problems can lead to difficulties in finding and maintaining employment, as oral health is often perceived as a reflection of overall health and hygiene. Chronic dental pain and disfigurement can diminish self-esteem and social interactions, contributing to mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.
