Ask the Dentist – At What Age Should My Child First See a Dentist?

At What Age Should My Child First See a Dentist?

– by Dr Allison Reimer

We get this question all the time! Studies show children can develop their first cavities by two years old, so the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends the first visit once their first tooth appears, which is usually around 6 months. We can help you move forward with oral health and discuss dietary impacts, hygiene recommendations, and preventative options for your child. Bringing your child to the office also helps with getting acclimated to a new and different environment. We understand kids’ behaviors are variable and we are here to help accommodate you and your child’s needs. By seeing them regularly starting at an early age, it can help your dentist catch potential problems that can affect your child’s overall health and well-being as more teeth grow in overtime.

Please talk to our dentists about the best time for your child to come in for their first exam based on their specific tooth eruption patterns.
