Should I floss first or should I brush first? This is one of the most common questions we get asked here at Artisan Dental. The ADA (American Dental Association http://www.ada.org/en/science-research/ada-seal-of-acceptance/product-category-information/floss-and-other-interdental-cleaners) recommends that as long as you are flossing once a day and brushing the recommended two times a day, which comes first doesn’t really matter. Some people like to brush their teeth first and then get the residual plaque out from in between the teeth with the floss after brushing. Others like to use dental floss first to remove plaque from in between the teeth and then brush the rest away. As long as you are doing a thorough job with home care, it is personal preference.
